GUWAHATI: Tensions erupted at New Market Sonapur on August 7, as authorities evicted a roadside food stall owned by Arati Das, who has operated the business since 2001. The eviction occurred despite Das challenging the notice in the Gauhati High Court.

Officials stated that the stall was situated on roadside land reserved next to the Air Force station, and notices had been served to Das previously. In mid-July, she filed a legal challenge against the eviction notice, which was under review by the Court's Legal Services Committee at the time of the eviction.

During the eviction, Das pleaded for a seven-day extension to allow the legal process to unfold, but her requests were denied. Following the incident, she was admitted to Sonapur District Hospital due to a severe panic attack, which caused her to lose her voice and experience chest pains.

An official from Sonapur Police Station told GPlus, "We were instructed from the circle office to provide assistance, and we deployed female officials for the duty. Everything was according to the law."

The situation remains tense as Das continues to recover in the hospital, with her voice yet to return.
