Guwahati: Vice President Advocates Against Making Business Out Of Education During RGU Convocation

GUWAHATI: The third convocation ceremony at the Royal Global University, Guwahati on Monday was a remarkable celebration of Manipur's vibrant culture and traditions. Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankar graced the event along with other dignitaries.

Leveraging Education for the purpose of "making commerce and business is antithetical to the societal cause and the sublimity, virtuosity of our civilisation," said the Vice President.

The event, graced by distinguished guests, emphasized the significance of regional diversity and cultural exchange in India's higher education landscape. 

The theme for this convocation revolved around Manipur, with a spotlight on its rich culture and traditions.

In previous years, the convocations had showcased the culture and heritage of Assam and Meghalaya during their respective ceremonies. 

Adressing the event, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar underscored the importance of the Royal Global University in fostering education and innovation.

He expressed his admiration for the institution, stating, "I am overwhelmed to witness the remarkable contributions of the Royal Global University, and I believe this institution will chart new horizons in the future." 

The ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, and Assam Director General of Police GP Singh. 

Vice President Dhankhar's address also extended heartfelt greetings to the students and commended the Chandrayaan mission and its dedicated scientists for their remarkable achievements. 

A total of 1,197 graduating students were awarded degrees, including the first batch of 8 PhD awardees.

The university recognised 42 Gold Medallists, 45 Silver Medallists, and 2 Chancellor's Gold Medallists, along with 4 exceptional students who excelled academically and in co-curricular activities. 

Additionally, special recognition was given to Rudrani Garg and Disha Choudhury, who received the Acharya's special gold medal for their academic excellence. 

Speaking to GPlus, an official of Royal Global University said, "We have accommodated a capacity of at least 4,000 attendees for the event."
