This announcement brings a new level of excitement to the region, promising a thrilling sporting event for local fans.

In one of the episodes of Guwahati Connection (a video interview series by GPlus), Devajit Saikia, Advocate General of Assam and Joint Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), confirmed the development. "While this year’s cricket schedule is already finalised, Barsapara Stadium is expected to feature a Test match within the next one to two years," Saikia said.

Saikia also acknowledged that one of the primary challenges for hosting a Test match at Barsapara is ensuring that the stadium, with a seating capacity of approximately 40,000 is adequately filled. The large venue size presents a challenge, given the attendance issues currently faced at some other Test centers.

He further reiterated that to overcome this hurdle, the Assam government is working to build a new stadium in Amingaon, which will have a capacity of 23,000—17,000 less than Barsapara which will be comparatively easy to fill during Test matches.
