Guwahati to have one foreign post office in NE

GUWAHATI: Guwahati is set to have one of the two foreign post offices (POs) to be set up in the North-eastern region.

The other PO is coming up at Shillong, Meghalaya.

The upcoming POs are expected to boost international trade in the region, which has been witnessing a slow pace of trade growth due to lack of awareness about different facilities and government schemes.

As per a report in The Assam Tribune, the volume of export from the Northeast has decreased from Rs 1,706.09 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 1,649.90 crore in 2018-19.

However, imports increased from Rs 665.49 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 1174.57 crore in the four years.
