Guwahati To Boost Connectivity With Six-Lane Bridge And Flyovers In The Pipeline

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government is working to transform Guwahati into a pivotal gateway for Southeast Asia. Several ambitious infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, aimed at enhancing the city's connectivity and overall development.

Among the key initiatives is the construction of a six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River, connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati. This project is expected to be inaugurated by Diwali in 2024.

To address traffic congestion issues, new flyovers have been planned at various critical junctions in Guwahati. These include flyovers at Bharalumukh Railway Crossing, Downtown on GS Road, Fatasil Road near Haryana Bhawan, Birubari to Lalganesh on Lokhra Road, and from RBI Panbazar to Bamunimaidam, complete with on-air rotary.

Additionally, a six-lane road stretching from the airport to Dharapur Chariali, complete with an on-air rotary, is on the horizon. Furthermore, an alternative elevated road from Maligaon to Kamakhya Temple via Pandu is also in the works, which will improve access to the ACA Cricket Stadium and other parts of the city.

Other projects that have been greenlighted are a ropeway connecting Kamakhya Temple, a Ring Road surrounding Guwahati, rotaries in Bhootnath and Machkowa and 300 crorer for road construction in Guwahati.
