GUWAHATI: Cases of thefts have gone up in Hengrabari area of Guwahati. These attempts of thefts have particularly increased in the peripheries of the Public Health complex area of Hengrabari.

On January 9, a thief tried to enter a Public Health Engineering, Quarter Number 242 at around 9.30 PM. The locks were broken and he broke entry to the house. The locals were alert and caught the thief red-handed. He was tied to a pole and the situation turned tense. Later officials from the Dispur Police Station (PS) arrived at the location and arrested the person.

This is not an isolated case of theft. Several attempts of thefts have been reported in the same area. Earlier, on January 1, a similar attempt had been made in a house in the same area. The thieves had broken into the house and had packed clothes and other valuable items to steal. However, they had taken a break to cook khichdi, as per locals. "We heard noises in the quarter. I immediately shouted and alerted the locals. Those inside the quarter ran away. As we entered the house, we saw they had cooked khicidi and had prepared dinner," a neighbor told G Plus.

G Plus spoke to officials at Dispur Police Station (PS) who stated that the person was arrested on January 9. A senior official even acknowledged that the cases of thefts have increased in the area. As per police sources, the police has increased patrolling in the area.
