Guwahati Tea Auction Centre Sells Record ₹2,300 Crores Of Assam Tea

 

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has reported sale of Assam tea amounting to nearly Rs 2,300 crore during the ongoing financial year 2023-2024.

Official data from GTAC revealed that approximately 115 million kg of tea were successfully auctioned at an average price of ₹198.51 per kg.

Guwahati Tea Auction Buyer's Association (GTABA) highlighted that this year witnessed the sale of a special tea named Golden Needle tea, fetching an impressive Rs 61,000 per kg.

In celebration of 200 years of Assam tea, GTAC distributed free tea on International Tea Day and participated in the International Tea Trade Fair.

Plans are underway for the bi-centenary Assam Tea International Conference in Guwahati on January 29-30, 2024, organised collaboratively by the Assam government, Tea Board, and other stakeholders.

The GTAC, currently the second-largest auction centre globally for CTC teas after Kenya, is actively striving to attain the foremost position.

The Tea Board's data indicates a slight decrease in Indian tea production from January to October, totaling 1163.06 million kg compared to last year's 1166.34 million kg.

Tea exports from India during the same period were 157.92 million kg, slightly lower than the previous year's 166.11 million kg.
