GUWAHATI: An elephant calf that was severely injured near Deepor Beel in Guwahati succumbed to injuries while it was being taken to the Assam State Zoo for treatment. The calf was reportedly attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Deosotal near Deepor Beel last night.
Local residents spotted the elephant calf early in the wee hours and informed the forest department. The officials of the Assam Forest Department reached the spot and recovered the baby elephant.
The elephant calf that was in critical condition died before it could reach the Assam State Zoo.
