Guwahati's LGBI Airport fails to match International Standards

GUWAHATI: The newly-revamped Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, touted to match international standards, is failing to meet benchmarks.

In a recent incident, photos circulating on social media revealed that commuting from and via LGBI Airport is proving to be a harrowing experience for several passengers.

On 18 November, a photo was captured by a passenger where, in spite of having dedicated departure gates, a gate had allegedly been temporarily converted to Gate No. 7 despite already having a functional Gate No. 7.

This re-numbering led to confusion among fellow passengers.

While LGBI Airport continues to be touted as the only International Airport in Northeast, it fails to meet international standards.

Apart from management issues, passengers complained of makeshift door locks.

The washrooms were ill equipped and had no hand tissues and faulty hand dryers.

While the government aims to connect Assam to the ASEAN countries via air, the Airport Authorities have clearly failed the task at hand.

"Such irregularities and horrible services are bound to ruin the state and the nation's image," said a passenger to G Plus.

The newly appointed LGBI Airport Director Ramesh Kumar, speaking to G Plus said, "The airport is currently undergoing a lot of construction work. We are also bringing in a lot of F&B and retail outlets in the due course of the upgradation of the LGBI airport, and it is possible that passengers might have noticed some problems around that time.”

It, however, looks like the management of AAI, Guwahati has not improved much as the airport has the previously made headlines due to ceiling leakages, infrastructural constraints, parking anomalies, and mismanagement.
