GUWAHATI: A team from Sonapur Police Station, East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) dismantled a gang of robbers active in the Nazirakhat area on November 3.

All four members of the gang, along with the individual who received and dealt in their stolen goods, were apprehended. The operation led to the seizure of a significant amount of valuables, along with vehicles and other items used in the gang's operations.
The arrested gang members have been identified as, Amirul Islam (41), resident of Dhing, Mustafizur Rahman (29), resident of Moirabari, Chandan Das (44), resident of Panjabari, Mojibur Rahman (50), resident of Nagaon, and Moinul Haque (24), resident of Dhing (receiver).
Investigations revealed that Chandan Das had previously identified a house in Panjabari as a potential target for burglary, recruiting his associates for the crime, which was ultimately thwarted. Amirul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman, who were returning from two failed theft attempts in Biswanath Chariali, were intercepted and apprehended near the Sonapur Toll Gate.
The receiver, Moinul Haque, who operates a jewelry shop in Dhing market, was also taken into custody. A search of his shop resulted in the recovery of various valuable items suspected to be stolen, including 34.82 gram of loose gold, 6 silver chains, 4 silver anklets, 19 silver necklaces, 19 silver anklets, 2 bangles, 1 pair of gold earrings, 16 pairs of silver earrings, 17 silver armlets, 1 box of silver rings weighing 456 gram, 1 box of silver anklets weighing 821 gram, 1 box of silver necklaces weighing 207 gram, 2 additional boxes of silver items weighing 771 gram and 383 gram, and ₹24,200 in cash.
In addition, police seized an SUV, a hatchback, seven mobile phones, and other items linked to the gang's criminal activities.
Legal proceedings against the suspects have been initiated.
