Guwahati Roads To Be Widened, Construction Areas To Be Kept Dust-Free During Durga Puja

GUWAHATI: In a high-level meeting held on October 6, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Special Commissioner of PWD (Roads), DC Kamrup Metro, CEO of GMDA, Commissioner of GMC, officials from Guwahati Jal Board, Guwahati Utilities Corporation, and the Smart City Corporation convened to assess key civic issues in the city, including ongoing road repairs, traffic management, city cleanliness, and preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.

The Public Works Department (PWD) (Roads) was directed to ensure that all ongoing construction projects, particularly at critical locations such as the Elevated Corridor from Guwahati Club to Noonmati, the Cycle Factory Junction, and the Downtown Hospital area, remain dust-free and hazard-free. It was also emphasised that service lanes in these areas should be free of potholes, ensuring smooth traffic flow. 

Additionally, PWD was instructed to undertake road widening wherever possible and ensure that all streets are properly illuminated to enhance safety and visibility, especially ahead of the festive season.

The meeting also focused on optimising traffic management and improving cleanliness.
