GUWAHATI: A senior police officer’s alleged disregard for traffic rules sparked outrage after a resident accused him of blocking a lane in Silpukhuri, already narrowed by ongoing flyover construction.

Manjit Kumar Buragohain, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), reportedly parked his car in front of a residential lane on MRD Road, causing hours of disruption. When requested to park elsewhere, the officer allegedly retorted, “Tell everyone I’m the DSP; they won’t dare ask me to move my car again,” according to a tweet by a city resident.

The tweet, which highlighted the inconvenience faced by residents unable to access their homes, gained traction on social media. It also raised questions about the conduct of public servants entrusted with upholding the law.

The incident prompted an immediate response from Assam DGP GP Singh, who replied, “Mam, appropriate remedial measure would be taken. Thanks for pointing out. No one has right to use his/her position in this manner at all.”

The ongoing flyover construction at Silpukhuri has already created bottlenecks for commuters and residents. Such incidents exacerbate the challenges, leaving citizens frustrated.
