GUWAHATI: Rukminigaon residents are facing severe inconvenience due to debris left by the Public Works Department (PWD) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) following recent infrastructure work. Despite the construction of new drainage systems by PWD and electric line installation by APDCL, the departments have abandoned construction waste outside a local residence, leaving residents frustrated.

Pankaj Kakoty, a resident affected by the accumulation, voiced his concerns, stating, "In a recent construction work by PWD and APDCL, dumps of debris were left behind in front of our residence. The debris left outside has now encouraged others to dump garbage here. Repeated complaints to the contractor and departments have led to no action.”

The issue has become a growing eyesore as the location has turned into a makeshift dumping ground. Speaking to GPlus, a senior official from APDCL clarified, “The construction materials in the area do not belong to our department. We have ensured our worksite is clear. However, PWD's drainage construction may be contributing to this issue. Moreover, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is responsible for monitoring the city's cleanliness.”

Responding to the situation, a PWD official stated, “We were not aware of such an issue. Now that it has come to our attention, we will discuss it with senior officials to work toward a solution.”

Residents continue to urge the departments to address the issue, highlighting the need for immediate and coordinated action to restore cleanliness to the area.
