The club is organising a Bhaona performance and has invited people from all walks of life, including political and non-political groups, to attend. As part of this, a delegation from the Press Club met Minister Ashok Singhal on Monday. However, during the discussion, the minister reportedly questioned, “Why should the Press Club organise a Bhaona? Bhaona is not secular.”

Reacting to this, the Guwahati Press Club said the statement was disrespectful and disappointing. The club emphasised that Bhaona is an integral part of Assam’s cultural heritage and should not be viewed through a narrow lens. It has urged the minister to reconsider his stance and issue a clarification.
