Guwahati Police Uncover Pragjyotish College Road Accident As Pre-Planned Murder

GUWAHATI: The Bharalumukh Police have arrested one Lal Hussain Ali on Sunday, October 06, revealing a prior road accident in front of Pragjyotish College as a premediated murder. The incident had occurred late evening on October 3, when a Bolero vehicle allegedly used in a government capacity, struck and fatally injured a man identified as Taibuddin Ahmed.

Initial investigations suggested a tragic accident, but further inquiries uncovered CCTV footage from the area and witness statements led police to identify the vehicle as belonging to the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Program, stationed at Christian Basti. The vehicle was further tracked down to the Assam Water Centre, Basistha, where it was being used Ali, the official driver of the program's Joint Director.

Upon interrogation, Ali confessed to deliberately using the government vehicle to kill Ahmed. The motive behind the crime was revealed to be personal — Ahmed had allegedly been involved in an extramarital affair with Ali’s wife, Anjuma Begum. Begum had left her husband two years ago to live with Ahmed in a rented house in Shantipur. Their illicit relationship had caused deep resentment in Ali, who planned the murder as a result.

On the night of the murder, Ali, knowing Ahmed’s routine, waited for him on the road. When Ahmed was returning home from his fruit and vegetable shop, Ali struck him from behind with the Bolero, dragging him a considerable distance before fleeing the scene.

Passers-by informed authorities that the Bolero vehicle, bearing “Government of Assam” markings, had dragged the victim for nearly 400 meters before he was left on the road. Ahmed was immediately rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), but despite efforts, he was declared dead at 12:35 AM on October 4.

Ali was arrested the following day and remains in police custody for the moment while further investigations continue.
