GUWAHATI: Based on a tip from the local public of Lokhra, the Gorchuk police apprehended three individuals who were caught red-handed attempting to steal cash from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM, on June 29.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ritesh Raja, a 26-year-old resident of Rajabigha, Debanandan Kumar, a 26-year-old resident of Badauan, and Pramod Singh a 32-year-old resident of Badauan, all hailing from Gaya.
As per the police report, the arrest took place near the SBI ATM in Lokhra when the trio was in the midst of their illicit activities, attempting to gain unauthorised access to the cash stored within the machine. Their modus operandi involved breaking open the upper hood of the ATM machine. However, the timely intervention of the local public ensured their capture before they could carry out their crime.
The police further added that during the subsequent search of the suspects, the police recovered various tools and instruments used for their illegal activities which included a swipe machine found in their possession, suggesting their involvement in other fraudulent activities as well.
Further investigations have been initiated as more details are awaited.
