GUWAHATI: A Guwahati Police team, with support from Manipur Police, has arrested and brought back an alleged linkman of a Manipur-based drug trafficking network that was trying to spread its activities in Assam, police said.
The joint operation was carried out in Moirang of Manipur’s Bishnupur district, an area considered extremely sensitive from a law-and-order perspective.
The arrested person has been identified as Shabir Ahamad, who is 29 years old hailing from Kwakta, Moirang. He was wanted in connection to a case relating to the seizure of a large quantity of heroin and a truck by Basistha Police Station on August 19. Two persons were arrested during the seizure.
Police said preliminary questioning of Ahamad has provided valuable leads about drug trafficking networks, and further investigations are ongoing.
