GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Pijush Hazarika, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister conducted unscheduled visits to two rehabilitation centres namely Hope Foundation in Hengerabari and the "Rani Rehabilitation Centre" in Lalmati on Thursday.

The visit aimed to ensure that the inmates residing there received proper medical facilities, lodging, bathroom, and other facilities in accordance with government policy guidelines.

Among these, the rehabilitation centre operated by the Hope Foundation in Hengerabari lacked the essential facilities required to comply with government policy guidelines. As a result of their persistent non-compliance with multiple directives, the facility was ordered to shut down and relocate the inmates to other rehabilitation centres.

Subsequently, during the inspection of the Rani Rehabilitation Centre, it was observed that although the centre had all the necessary facilities, there had been a notable absence of doctors for the past few months.

Further, strict instructions were given to the proprietor to appoint doctors at the centre within the next week and a warning of closure was forwarded.

Taking to Twitter, Hazarika shared, "Today, I reiterated strict instructions to the proprietors and custodians of these rehabilitation centres to fully comply with government guidelines and prioritise cleanliness. Similar campaigns will continue throughout Assam in the future."
