GUWAHATI: Late on Friday evening, NH 27 bore witness to a sea of trucks as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pressed on with the Basistha Flyover completion project.
City commuters, navigating the route, voiced their collective frustration, highlighting the apparent lack of coordination by the city's traffic police.
Ramen Deka, a resident of Lokhra said, "I am in a state of worry, my wife is pregnant and there's a long queue ahead of us. What should I do at times of such an emergency?"
Several vehicles, many en route to critical medical facilities located in Koinadhora, found themselves in a state of panic as gridlock descended upon them.
Speaking to GPlus, a police official from the Basistha Police Station's traffic division shed light on the situation saying, "Given the ongoing construction activities conducted by NHAI, it became necessary to halt the vehicles temporarily to ensure their safety. Rest assured, we are working to alleviate the traffic snarl."
The construction on NH 27 serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by infrastructure projects on daily commuters especially during medical emergencies and the need for effective traffic management during these times.
