Guwahati: Newly Installed Traffic Light At Six Mile Topples

GUWAHATI: Just a week after the installation of Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Guwahati, a traffic light pole in the Six Mile area collapsed on Tuesday, August 30.

While talking to G Plus, Dispur Traffic In-Charge said, “In the preliminary investigation, it has been found that a vehicle had hit the pole which resulted in the fall. We are still going through the CCTV camera footage to understand when did this incident occur and how. This signal was currently facing technical issue and was not working properly.”

As per an eyewitness, the pole has now been removed and kept on the side of the road to avoid any further accident.

Update:

In video footage captured on the ANPR System, it was found that a dumper had hit the pole while reversing the vehicle in the wee hours of the night. While talking to G Plus an official of the Technosys Securities, who is responsible for setting up the ITMS said, “The dumper was coming from the wrong side of the service lane from Panjabari to VIP Point. While reversing the vehicle hit the pole. The ANPR is focused on the Stop line for violation and the system couldn’t capture the number plate of the vehicle as it was not crossing the Stop Line. However, we are enhancing the picture captured to see if there is any possibility of extracting the number plate”.

Phase I of ITMS, Guwahati was launched last week on August 23 under the City Police Commissionerate for Traffic Management in which 20 junctions were installed stretching from Paltan Bazar to Khanapara. In the final phase, a total of 94 junctions are to be installed across Guwahati with a budget of Rs 90 crores.
