GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has proposed increasing the number of wards under its jurisdiction from the previous 31 to 60.

A draft for the proposed delimitation of the city’s wards was shared with G Plus by GMC officials. The draft of Delimitation of Wards along with the boundaries and map of the proposed wards was published on January 7.

Residents intending to lodge any claims or objections to the proposed draft can do so by submitting a written objection addressed to the Office of the Commissioner of GMC by January 19.

As per reports, the election of the GMC and municipal bodies will probably be postponed by a month if the COVID-19 scenario in the State does not improve.

Earlier, the Assam Government had proposed the holding of the GMC elections by the end of April 2022. The information was submitted to the Gauhati High Court by Assam Advocate General Devajit Saikia on November 23.
