GUWAHATI: In an unfortunate incident, a girl student was allegedly sexually abused by her uncle and cousin for several months in the city.
The incident came to light when Gautam Sarma, a city-based journalist lodged an FIR at the All Women Police Station in Panbazar.
According to the report, the victim was being cared for by her maternal aunt, Bonti Handique and uncle, Hiroo Prasad Deka after her mother's second marriage.
Bonti who is a sporstwoman, used to travel outside for tournaments and taking advantage of the situation, she was allegedly sexually assaulted on several occasions by her cousin and uncles.
During such times, the victim used to stay with her uncle and Bonti's brother, Thaneshwar Handique who alegedly molested and raped her on multiple occassions. Around 6 months ago, Bonti's husband who is a constable in Nagaon, allegedly molested the victim while his wife was away.
Based on the FIR, city police have started an investigation and have detained her uncles, Hiroo Prasad Deka and Thaneshwar Handique for interrogation.
Speaking to G Plus, Deepak Kumar, Commissioner of Police, said, "The police suspects that there is one more person named Dewashish who had molested the victim and we are currently trying to locate him."
An FIR has been registered 134/19 under section 376 (AB)/ 376 (3) IPC and section 6 of POCSO.
Meanwhile, the girl is currently residing with Childline services.
