The wholesale price has now risen to ₹62 per litre, up from the previous rate of ₹56.50 per litre. This decision was made by the Brihattar Guwahati Gau-Palak Sanstha (BGGS).
This increase in wholesale prices has affected retail prices as well. According to the new estimates, retail price of milk could reach around ₹75.80 per litre, up from the former price of ₹65.70 per litre in Guwahati and its surrounding areas. However, the sellers' association has not supported the decision due to the drastic change in rates.
Milk prices across all operating markets in India has also increased. In the Delhi-NCR region, Mother Dairy’s full cream milk is now priced at ₹68 per litre. Toned and double-toned milk are available at ₹56 and ₹50 per litre, respectively. Additionally, prices for buffalo and cow milk have been raised to ₹72 and ₹58 per litre, respectively.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has increased the price of fresh milk by ₹2 a litre effective from June 3, 2024, in all markets across the country.
The federation has attributed the hike to the rise in input costs. With the revision, Amul buffalo milk will cost ₹73 a litre and cow milk ₹58 a litre.
The announcement of milk price hike came weeks after the Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association decided to increase the rates last year.
