GUWAHATI: Guwahati’s fine dining underbelly is out for everyone to see. In the midst of checks and raids being conducted by the food safety department, news has come that Kareem’s – a fine dining restaurant in Zoo Road – has served stale and rotting food to the customers.

The customers Prassana Saikia along with his family had ordered biryani for themselves and found rotten meat parts in it. They also found the chicken items to be stale and tasted sour. When the customers asked for the owner or the management the waiters wanted to do a mutual settlement.

Angry with the response Prassana Saikia then immediately lodged a complaint and Dispur Police swung into action. When the police checked the kitchen it was found that the meat for biryani and other items were allegedly kept on the floor in unhygienic condition. The police has collected the food samples and has sent for laboratory tests.

Kareem’s management has put the blame on the vendor who supplies the meat. According to them the vendor is supposed to send good quality meat. It is a case of negligence on vendor’s part as this has happened for the first time clarified the management.

Dispur Police has registered a case, 1904/18/270/273, under Indian Penal Code.

Intersetingly, in one more incident 15 people have been taken sick after consuming food from a food cart Street Za. The owner has denied the claims that it was because of food from Street Za.
