Guwahati Journalist Brutally Attacked While Saving GMCH Nurse

GUWAHATI: A city-based journalist was brutally attacked when he intervened to save a nurse of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on 14th December.

Afnur Ali, a journalist with Dy365 is currently admitted in GMCH with 34 stitches behind his ear after trying to save a nurse from being attacked by her friend with a sharp machete (Daa). 


The incident happened around 8:30 pm, when Afnur Ali, who got married just 15 days back, reportedly went to meet his wife who works as a nurse in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, when he saw a colleague of hers being attacked with a machete by a man.


The attacker, one Pankaj Baishya, a fourth-grade worker of Jorhat Medical College, was trying to harm his friend (the nurse) when the latter screamed for help. Afnur Ali, in a humane act, tried to prevent the crime but was severely hurt in return.


Pankaj Baishya was caught by other officials of the hospital and handed over to Bhangaghar Police Station in Guwahati.


Karuna Sharma, Officer in Charge of Bhangaghar PS, speaking to G Plus informed, "We have arrested the culprit but a case is yet to be registered as the victim or his guardians are yet to register a case."
