GUWAHATI: Guwahati International Airport has issued an advisory for passengers amidst a widespread global IT outage affecting operations nationwide. The disruption has severely impacted essential services such as booking, check-in procedures, and access to boarding passes and flight information.
This has led to long check-in queues at the boarding gates of the Guwahati airport as passengers were unaware of the situation. As per the advisory, passengers are advised to expect delays and are urged to directly contact their respective airlines for the latest updates and information regarding their flights, so as to schedule their timing of reaching the airport as required.
Airport officials of Guwahati have assured travellers that they are working closely with airlines to manage operations efficiently and minimise disruptions as much as possible, and that their priority was to ensure passenger safety and provide timely assistance.

A widespread IT outage has disrupted air travel across the country, severely affecting operations and causing significant disruptions to flights. Due to the global IT outage, airports across India are facing large-scale failure as everything is back to the days of physical boarding pass, security checks and rubber stamping on boarding passes. Airports in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and other cities of India also reported massive chaos due to the tech issues leading to operations going for a toss.
Taking to X, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT, said: "MEITY is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage. The reason for this outage has been identified and updates have been released to resolve the issue. CERT is issuing a technical advisory. NIC network is not affected."
Airports and airlines across the globe, including Indian cities, got affected on Friday, July 19, due to a technical glitch in Microsoft's Azure cloud security system.
