GUWAHATI: The 1000-bed maternal and pediatric centre at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital is expected to be ready by April 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on June 18.

The Chief Minister made the announcement after his visit to the GMCH on June 17 in which he reviewed the ongoing expansion of the hospital.
The Assam CM posted a video of his GMCH visit on his social media handle and stated, "Yesterday I spent several hours at@gmchgauhatireviewing the hospital’s expansion, filling up vacancies and exploring a potential proton therapy facility . By April 2025 we aim to complete the 1000-bed maternal and paediatric centre."
