The Association said in a statement that emergency services will remain withdrawn until 5 PM today while non-emergency services have been withdrawn indefinitely.

In a statement, the Association strongly condemned the violent incident that occurred around 9:30 AM in the surgery ward. According to the Association, a group of attendants accompanying a patient physically assaulted on-duty doctors in an unacceptable display of aggression.

The doctors will present their demands to the authorities and will maintain their withdrawal of services until these demands are adequately addressed, the statement said.

The incident comes at a time when the medical fraternity across the country is demanding safety at the workplace after the Kolkata incident where a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital was allegedly raped and murdered on August 9. Junior doctors at GMCH were also protesting against the incident.
