Guwahati: Geetanagar Sees 70% Of Property Crime Cases, Police Cite Drug Addiction

GUWAHATI: The Geetanagar Police Station has registered nearly 70% of Guwahati’s property crime cases, with theft and burglary dominating the statistics. According to a police official, these incidents are often linked to drug addiction, with a noticeable concentration in areas

“Most of the cases are thefts and burglaries,” an official told GPlus. “Many drug addicts are involved, and the narrow, interconnected lanes in Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar allow thieves to easily escape, darting through different routes. " 

Despite arrests, officials say many of these offenders quickly get bail and return to crime, creating a cycle that challenges the police efforts in maintaining order.
However, police have ramped up patrolling in these areas, but the structure of the neighbourhood and repeat offenders remain ongoing obstacles.
