Guwahati: Former FCI General Manager Caught in Multi-Crore Scam

A former Food Corporation of India (FCI) General Manager Gundavarapu Sri Siva Raja Sekhar named has been arrested for a multi-crore scam. The arrest was made by the Bureau Of Investigation Economic Offences (BIEO). 


The case involved a multi-crore rice pilferage scam, which is dated back to 2013. Subsequently, an FIR was filed in 2015 with four cases registered in different police stations of the state - two in Paltan Bazar and two in Jorhat. The Gauhati High Court (HC) transferred the matter to the BIEO and based on the FIRs and further investigations, six people have been arrested in connection to the same. 


Approximately, 113 trucks of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice were looted on the way from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh. 


Along with the rice scam, bank guarantees were forged by the officials. 


G Plus spoke to Purabi Muzamdar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), BIEO who stated that "fake guarantee confirmation had come from UCO Bank Guwahati, although the assigned bank route was supposed to be from Jorhat and Nagaon."


The fake guarantees are worth approximately Rs 59,07,450 and Rs 31,30,750 respectively. As per a highly placed source, more people are expected to be arrested in the case.
