Guwahati: Flooding In Maligaon Rest Camp Area, Locals Blame Unplanned Boring Work

GUWAHATI: A road near Maligaon Rest Camp has reportedly been flooding for the last few days due to overflowing drainage water from the nearby drains.

The residents of the area have claimed that the reason for the drain overflowing is because of groundwater boring work done in the area with the approval of the local councillor of ward no.4 under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

“Due to unplanned & unnecessary borring here & there by councillor of ward No 4, in the name of development it's a punishment to public with overflow drainage water in road since last many days,” an X user tweeted yesterday on February 18.

Another local claimed that besides the unplanned boring work, the culverts of the drains in the area have also clogged up due to garbage being dumped leading to the drain water overflowing.

“The culverts of the drain are full of garbage due to which the drain water is overflowing onto the road,” the local stated.

Another local complained about the danger and inconvenience caused to the public and said, “The overflowing drain is causing unnecessary harassment to the public.”

While speaking to GPlus, the local councillor of ward no. 4 Kanaklata Saha said, “I just came from the area. We have reduced the water level in the overflowing drain and the road is okay now. The flooding was caused by a pipeline which had burst during the underground boring work which was being done. The situation has been rectified now”.
