Guwahati: First Horse Riding and Polo Training Centre in NE inaugurated at Sarusajai Stadium

GUWAHATI: The first Horse Riding and Polo Training Centre in the northeast region was inaugurated by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, June 30. 

The inaugural programme for the same was held at Sarusajai Stadium in the city. 

This centre has been set up to organise the National Junior Equestrian Tournament in 2020.

Three horses have been brought from Ireland and another five horses from the United States of America for the horse riding and polo training centre. 

“I've always been in awe of the tenacity and balance of Polo players, and the horses they ride. Glad that this oldest equestrian sport is growing in popularity. Today I inaugurated Guwahati Riding & Polo Club. I am certain it shall add to Assam's dazzling sporting culture,” stated Sarma on his Twitter account. 

Following the inaugural ceremony, the state finance minister rode Sultan, a horse owned by Retd. Lt Col. Ashutosh Tripathi.
