GUWAHATI: Dipjyoti Saikia of Hengerabari and Samrat Roy of Pandu were arrested by Panbazar Police following a complaint by one Arabinda Deka on June 03.

According to Arabinda Deka, the youths collected varied amounts of money from unsuspecting victim luring with jobs with the Railways.

For the fourth and third category jobs, like trackmen, etc, they collected amounts like Rs. 2.5 lakh and Rs. 3 lakh. For better jobs like ticket collector, they demanded Rs. 5 lakh.

One of the apprehended Samrat Roy is a resident of Pandu and used to hand over the appointment letters near the NF Railway headquarters at Maligaon.

A victim speaking to this said he was elated when he received the appointment letter for a trackman’s job in the railways.

He went to his place of posting, a nondescript railway station in the State and even worked there for a couple of days until he was shunted out by the station authorities who came to know that his appointment letter was a fake one.

It is to be mentioned that dozens of youths are duped by frauds in the city on the pretext of giving jobs and contracts in the railways or other Government affiliated firms.
