GUWAHATI: Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) will soon be launching a special wing for child cancer treatment.

BBCI is among the 11 centers from South East Asia Practice Network that have been selected by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to facilitate Childhood Cancer Management.

Reportedly, the project comprises the construction of a seven storeyed building at an estimated cost of Rs 73.78 crore.

Dr Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of BBCI, speaking to G Plus said, "We are proposed to construct the building in the vacant land adjacent to the two guest houses. Athough we are mulling to complete it within four years, but it's an ambitious project and will take time."

"The project, when completed, will be the first for Pediatric Cancers and Haemato-lymphoid Services. Treatment for child oncology is greatly lagging in the northeastern region. Its highly curable and we wish to provide this dedicated service," he added.
