During his visit, Sonowal boarded the Water Metro at the High Court Junction terminal and travelled to Fort Kochi and Vypeen. He was joined by officials from Kochi Metro Rail Ltd., Cochin Port Trust, and the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
Sonowal said Assam’s river systems, especially the Brahmaputra, offer a strong foundation for building modern water transport infrastructure. He emphasised the importance of reconnecting urban centres with waterways, a practice historically rooted in Assam’s transport culture.
The feasibility studies will determine how the model can be adapted to the geographical and transport needs of each selected city in the state.
