GUWAHATI: Guwahati residents have been bearing the brunt of traffic woes for quite some time now. The B Borooah Road of Guwahati like many other critical roads of the city has been causing a hassle for the commuters due to the ongoing and untimely construction work for the past few months.
As per statements from an advocate who practices in Gauhati High Court, the commuters are facing significant hardships due to the ongoing construction work on B Borooah Road, a crucial arterial road that connects various parts of the city. The situation has escalated to the point where individuals are compelled to travel during early morning hours, only to encounter the same extensive traffic congestion and delays, resulting in a considerable loss of time and productivity.
Namrata Mahanta, an Advocate of Gauhati High Court who resides in the Beltola area while talking to G Plus said, “Most of the people going to work or like us going to the High Court or the lower courts take this route and in the morning it becomes a disaster. I leave by 9:15 AM in the morning as the court starts by 10:15 AM but we are rarely able to reach on time.”
Mahanta further stated that the inadequate functioning of traffic lights near Ulubari and the ill-management by traffic police further compound the problems faced by the commuters.
The predicament arises from the fact that B Borooah Road, already narrow, accommodates two-way traffic, making it difficult for vehicles to pass without hindrance. Recently, construction activities have commenced in the early morning hours, exacerbating the troubles faced by commuters who rely on this road to reach their workplaces.
Commuters who work in the High Court or nearby establishments in the Uzan Bazar area are particularly affected. With no alternative routes available due to the ongoing flyover construction, they are left with no choice but to navigate B Borooah Road.
A senior official of PWD while talking to G Plus in this regard stated, “The ongoing construction of the B Borooah-BK Kakati Road will be completed by July. We urge all the commuters and residents to bear with us till the date.”
