Guwahati: CNG Bus Strike Compels ASTC To Revoke Conductors’ Termination

GUWAHATI: The protest called by the drivers and conductors of CNG Buses was called off on Friday following a meeting between the Assam State Transport Corporation authorities and the protesting employees.

According to sources, the meeting between the ASTC authorities and the employees took place at around 3 PM on Friday after the reinstatement of two conductors.

This may be mentioned that none of Guwahati's 100 newly introduced CNG buses plied on the road on Friday following a protest by the drivers and conductors over the dismissal of two employees.

Speaking to G Plus, ASTC Managing Director Rahul Chandra Das said the matter has been resolved.

“The strike has been called off now and the matter sorted out at a meeting on Friday with ASTC employees,” Das said.

The ASTC MD said, “The two bus conductors were terminated from service after they failed to issue tickets to passengers.”

The ASTC  employees met Das and tried to justify the protest in solidarity with the fired employees with additional demands of raising their salaries.

As per the orders of the state transport minister Parimal Suklabaidya, a vigilance team conducted a surprise check in two CNG buses to ensure strict compliance with issuing tickets to passengers.

During the investigation, the vigilance team found that the bus conductors failed to issue tickets. Subsequently, the two conductors were dismissed from service.
