A source in the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) talking to GPlus said, “The directive is for both privately-owned buses and those operated by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC),” adding that now it is mandatory for buses to strictly comply with the order.

The source said that the colour strip will help identify the designated route.

There are six routes within the city and nine routes on the outskirts of the city. This system has been curated to ensure that buses stick to their designated routes to manage traffic.

ASTC sources said that the electric buses will feature green strips, symbolising their environment-friendly nature.

However, instead of elongated strips, ASTC buses will be marked with four circular stickers on all four sides of the vehicle, he added.

Many buses have installed the stickers and within 10 to 15 days all city buses in Guwahati will have the colour stickers.
