GUWAHATI: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to start bus services on Mother Teresa Road from Zoo Tiniali, Guwahati, considering the demands from passengers and bus associations for the need for city bus services on the route.
The RTA had directed the District Transport Office to resolve the issue and permit buses to ply from Zoo Tiniali on Mother Teresa Road at the earliest. The Department has decided to allow a maximum of 10 buses on the route. A meeting is to be held on November 18 at the RTA office to decide the date of starting the bus services and the selection of buses of the various organisations.
Several bus associations in Guwahati including, GTA, GMTA, GMST, GGMBOA had previously submitted memorandums to the authorities in this regard.
Reportedly, although the route was active for some time earlier, the same was halted to facilitate services of share taxis. As such, city buses found plying on Mother Teresa Road, were allegedly fined.
However, considering the importance of the route and the necessity of affordable transportation for Guwahati residents, the city bus route from Zoo Tiniali onwards will soon be started.
