Guwahati Boy To Receive Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 

 

GUWAHATI: Saiyam Mazumdar, a 15-year-old boy from Guwahati has been named as one of the recipients of the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2024 for social service, according to the press release by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on January 19.  

He will receive the award for his work in the field of wildlife conservation and animal rescue on Monday, as stated by him. In July 2023, he was even recognized by the India Book of Records “for being an animal lover at a young age” and “rescuing snakes, dogs and rabbits from injury”, as per the official website. 

Speaking to GPlus, he said “I am India’s youngest animal rescuer. I am rescuing snakes and also the voiceless street animals like dogs. I got inspired by my trainer Sourav Mishra. I am doing this rescue work since the age of seven and have rescued more than 1000 snakes.”   

The 15-year-old is studying in class 10 at Maharishi Vidya Mandir and plans to pursue something in the field of zoology in the future. 

He will receive the award from Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, on January 22 in a ceremonial function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He is also expected to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23, and will participate in the Republic Day parade on January 26.
