GUWAHATI: IPS officer Shiladitya Chetia, currently posted as Assam home secretary died by suicide on the premises of Nemcare Hospital on Tuesday, June 18.

Chetia was on leave since last four months and according to sources he shot himself in the hospital after his wife’s demise on Tuesday.
Sources in Nemcare hospital said that his wife was unwell and was under treatment since last several months. He shot himself with his service pistol in the ICU.
As per the recent update, his body has been sent to GMCH for postmortem.

Assam DGP GP Singh also took to X to put out, "In an unfortunate turn of events, Sri Shiladitya Chetia IPS 2009 RR, Secretary Home & Political Government of Assam, took his own life this evening, a few minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife who was battling cancer for a long time. Entire Assam Police family is in deep grief."
