Guwahati: Are Students Using COVID-19 as an Excuse to Bypass Exams?

Students in Guwahati and across Assam are heading for the annual exams of their respective academic year. At the same time, COVID-19 cases linked to educational institutions have been reported in schools of Guwahati.

This has caused concerns among the parents with regards to sending their children for their exams scheduled to be held offline. Meanwhile, the school authorities are contemplating holding the exams in online mode. Few schools have already given in to the demands of the parents.

Earlier the Cotton university students too demanded online exams following the declaration of containment zone near Don Bosco Panabazar.

However few from the education fraternity have questioned the demands of the parents and the students. G Plus spoke to a Principal from one of Guwahati's leading schools who in condition of anonymity stated the flaws of online examination.

"Students are getting 45 plus marks out of 50 in tests but we wonder how all of them are doing so well. So we wanted to test them offline to take stock of their academics after months of lockdown."

On the issue of students opposing the offline tests, the educator responded "If they can celebrate Saraswati Puja then why can't they appear for exams?"

There have been reports of students copying while appearing for exam in online mode and few even caught roaming about in shopping malls during video classes.
