Guwahati: AGP and BJP Alliance is Here to Stay, claims Ranjeet Dass

GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will continue their alliance together in the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2021. This was informed to G Plus by Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam President on Monday.

Dass stated that along with AGP, the Bodo ally United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) will be in the alliance.

As per sources close to the matter, the AGP and BJP have been meeting at Dass' residence to discuss the seat-sharing agreement for both parties.

The AGP members had previously demanded the status quo of existing seats where the party won during the last election in 2016. Meanwhile, some high ranks within the BJP have desired for the seats being held by the AGP. This has led to a conflict of interests in the alliance. However, all these equations are being discussed by the BJP-AGP members at senior level meetings.

The BJP Assam chief further stated that the final decision about seat sharing will depend on the national level survey taken under the central command of the BJP. As such, the BJP leaders are set to meet and discuss the same with the high command on March 4.

Meanwhile, the AGP top brass has remained hopeful that key seats will be given to them. As per sources close to the matter, Ramendra Narayan Kalita is expecting to retain his West Gauhati seat whereas the BJP Guwahati Unit had earlier expressed intentions of contesting the seat.
