GUWAHATI: The deteriorating condition of plants in dividers placed across Guwahati has become a growing concern for the city's residents. Many locals are expressing disappointment over the neglect of these green spaces and are calling for immediate action to restore them to their former beauty.

Speaking to G Plus, Juri Das, a resident of Christian Basti, minced no words when she stated, "These plants are just for show. They plant them when some ministers visit Guwahati, and then no one looks after them."

Anup Das, another concerned resident of Lachit Nagar, elaborated on the issue, saying, "The state of the plants in the road dividers of Guwahati is quite disheartening. These dividers were once adorned with lush greenery, but now they appear neglected and unkempt. It's essential that authorities pay attention to their maintenance to preserve the beauty of our city and promote a healthier environment."

To understand the reasons behind this decline in the condition of road divider plants, G Plus reached out to a senior official from the Social Forestry Department who shed some light on the challenges faced in maintaining these green spaces.

The senior official explained to G Plus, "Maintenance has been an issue due to a lack of sufficient funds. Contractors are entrusted with the responsibility, but when they do not receive the necessary funding, they tend to neglect their duties."

Without any maintenance, the lush green saplings that are planted across the side of Guwahati roads and dividers wither away into oblivion.
