GUWAHATI: A recent video of garbage littered around the Lachit Borphukan’s statue at Lachit Ghat, Guwahati was posted by GPlus on social media.

The visuals showed a grim picture of neglect and civic apathy as garbage, including waste from nearby markets such as Machkhowa and Fancy Bazar, discarded items from fast-food vendors, and refuse from local residents, were strewn around the area. The situation had been further worsened during festivals like Saraswati Puja, where discarded idols, flowers, and other ritualistic items are abandoned, turning the ghat into a veritable dumping ground.
GMC taking notice cleaned up the area on February 8, getting rid of the dump and garbage in and around the locality.
