Govt to set up new agency named 'Invest Assam' to follow up on MoUs signed

In order to follow up with the promised investment, an agency named ‘Invest Assam’ will be formed which  will be led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to make realize the investments within limited time frame.

“An agency will be set up by the Assam government to follow up on all the MoUs signed during the global investors’ summit and also to find opportunities to persuade the investors in the state,” government sources said.

It may be mentioned here the previous led Tarun Gogoi government also formed an investment advisory board which included industry bigwigs like Ratan Tata, Adi Godrej but it could not fetch the desired result.

A total of 200 MoUs were signed in a two day Global Investors event worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore. But, as the data showed of other business summit held in other parts of the country like Vibrant Gujarat, Bengal Global Summit showed  very minimal realization of the investment promised in the event in subsequent times.

The event which has been billed as one of the greatest showcase event of the North Eastern Region to attract investments is also conspicuous by absence of many Chief Ministers of the region.
