GUWAHATI: Baba Ramdev has made headlines with his newest controversial statement wherein he has said that the government should make a law where the third child of any family should not be allowed to vote, contest elections or enjoy any facilities provided by the government.

He said this in regard to India’s growing population at a press conference on Sunday, May 26. He added that if such a rule is implemented, “people will not give birth to more children, no matter which religion they belong to.”

Ramdev added that the country’s population should not exceed 150 crores in the next 50 years.

He further batted for a pan-India ban on manufacturing, sale and purchase of liquor, stating that Islamic countries have banned liquor and since India is the “land of sages,” it should be banned here too.

Following this, Ramdev even demanded a complete ban on cow-slaughter and said that this was the “only way to reduce the conflict between cow smugglers and “gau rakshak (cow protectors).” He added that people who want to consume meat can eat the “other types of meat” available in the market.
