GUWAHATI: Ashok Singhal, the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of Assam, said today, December 28 that the government will soon begin eviction drives around Guwahati in order to implement the initiative of ‘Mission Flood-Free Guwahati’.
The minister has held the citizens of Guwahati responsible for the waterlogging and artificial flooding that occurs after rains and said, “Eviction drive will be conducted soon in Guwahati at locations where people have illegally encroached lands near rivers and streams.”
In his interaction with the media, he said, “Various steps have been taken to make the city flood-free including desilting of Bahini River that flows through the southern part of Guwahati and Laksmi stream.”
According to reports, the eviction drives have already started in Rukminigaon today, along with the de-siltation of the drainage systems in various parts of Guwahati.
