GUWAHATI: In Assam, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a government employee red-handed while accepting a bribe on Wednesday.
An accountant at the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was caught red-handed taking a bribe near his home.
The anti-corruption cell announced on Twitter that it set up a trap in the Samaguri of Assam's Nagaon, and apprehended accountant Pulin Saikia after he received a bribe of ₹35,000 to release the complainant's bill.
Assam's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wrote on Twitter, “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM laid a trap at Samaguri, Nagaon & caught red-handed Pulin Saikia, Accountant, O/O Executive Engineer, PHE, Bokakhat, near his house soon after he accepted Rs. 35,000/-from the complainant for releasing running Bill.”
Following his arrest, investigators conducted a search of his apartment. During the search, officials also seized more than ₹6 lakhs in cash.
“Further to the trap & arrest of Pulin Saikia last night, search by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM at his residential premises in Samaguri has led to the recovery of cash ₹6,05,700/-. The same has been seized and lawful action is being taken,” the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption further stated in a tweet.
