GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Wednesday, November 20 imposed penalties on four residents in Accounts Colony, Guwahati for obstructing the drainage system.
Penalties of ₹5000, ₹2000 and ₹1000 were imposed on the different residents by the GMC.
The incident is targeted for maintaining the city’s drainage network and preventing waterlogging issues.
GMC officials reported that the blockage was caused by improper disposal of garbage into the drains, disrupting the natural flow of water. In response, the authorities took action and have also urged citizens to refrain from such practices.
GMC took to X to put out, “Today, GMC imposed penalty on a citizen for causing blockage in drains along Accounts Colony. We request citizens to help us in maintaining Guwahati’s drainage system by kindly not dumping garbage & blocking the flow of our drains.
